About Jack

Growing up in a small town, Jack Bergman learned the values at the center of the American Dream: in our exceptional nation, if you work hard, do the right thing, and never quit you will find success. Those values have stayed with him. Whether it was rising to become a three-star general in the Marines, carrying passengers safely across the country as a pilot for Northwest Airlines, or starting his own business in the medical equipment field, he knows that successes shouldn’t come because of connections to special interest groups or political donations. It should come to those who are hardworking, honest people determined to take care of their family and their community.

The Bergman family roots in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula stretch back to the late 1800s where his ancestors worked as iron miners. Jack’s military service forced him to live all around the country. In 1998 he built a home and settled in Watersmeet. He and his wife Cindy call Michigan’s Upper Peninsula home.

Jack is driven by his commitment to serving others. While in the military, he launched two successful startup businesses in the medical equipment field, maintaining an obligation to both his nation and his customers simultaneously. As an entrepreneurial leader focused on mission accomplishment and customer satisfaction, Jack knows how to get things done. He believes his small-town ideals are what Washington needs to start serving the people faithfully again.

A grandfather to eight wonderful grandchildren, when Jack looks at what’s happening in Washington, he fears that we are not leaving our children and grandchildren a country better off than the one we received from our parents and grandparents. He knows that’s wrong and needs to change.

Hard work and commitment to being the best made the United States the most exceptional nation in the world. Those are the principles that have guided Jack’s life. He’s running for Congress because he believes what most Michiganders believe: Americans know how to live their lives better than Washington does. Jack’s life has been dedicated to fighting to defend the Constitution. He plans to shake up the status quo in both Congress and the Republican Party by continuing to defend the United States from those who want to weaken it, both domestically and abroad.

To the Editor and readers of the Mining Journal:

Have you tried yet to access our congressman’s website? Jack Bergman’s most recent posting seems to have been made before the election in November. Since then, he has made no comments about the many issues of the day — things like the Affordable Care Act, U.S. / Russia relations, the appointment to head the EPA a man who will do nothing about Enbridge Line 5 under the Mackinac Straits.

Even worse, he has scheduled no events to meet with his constituents. Particularly galling is the fact that he has said nothing on his web page, and he has scheduled no townhall meetings, to discuss the GOP plans for a replacement for the ACA. When Congress was developing the ACA, Mr. Bergman’s predecessor, Bart Stupak, had no fear in facing the rowdy incipient tea party opponents of the ACA at townhall meetings.

Shouldn’t we expect the same courtesy from our current congressman?

    Robert Myers

I see how they have been slamming you for your stand on social security. I say the reason they don’t like it is because they want to keep it in Congress so they can keep stealing from it

Thank you for your service, Lt. Gen. Bergman.
I have been reading about and researching you because you want to represent me. First, I haven’t been able to establish whether or not you are a Christian. Please provide your position towards Christianity. Second, when do you believe that life begins?
Please accept my apologies if I have overlooked your positions.
